, the Vietnamese director’s second opus is now entering the Berlin competition. This lightning-fast rise to prominence will also bring a smile to the faces of the team at French production outfit Acrobates Films. Managed by Claire-Agnès Lajoumard, the company has overseen both films by the director, sharing executive production with DNY Productions (based in Hanoi). Big Father, Small Father and Other Stories was also co-produced by Germany’s Busse & Halberschmidt Filmproduktion and Dutch firm Volya Films. The feature also received backing from the CNC via World Cinema Support, the Hubert Bals Fund and the World Cinema Fund.

Big Father, Small Father and Other Stories is set at the start of the 2000s. Vu is a young photography student who has just arrived in Saigon. He shares his apartment with Thang, a charming young drug dealer whom he follows on his nocturnal escapades across the city, where he discovers a totally new world... But he also meets Van, a voluptuous dancer with links to Thang. The three characters develop an ambiguous friendship until the day comes when they are forced to run away from the city and take refuge in Vu’s hometown, where Vu’s father has other plans for his son...
