previously represented his country in the race for the Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film in 2010. Although almost six years have passed since that feature debut, the filmmaker is still sticking resolutely to his artistic approach. He has once again drawn inspiration from action-packed Polish literature: The Reverse was an adaptation of a novel by Andrzej Bart, while A Grain of Truth is based on the best-selling crime novel Entanglement by Zygmunt Miloszewski (which won the prestigious Paszport Polityki Award a few days ago).

Nevertheless, while The Reverse was a kind of thriller pastiche, A Grain of Truth is a pure genre film, with a main character, public prosecutor Teodor Szacki, sinking his teeth into solving a puzzling case following a series of mysterious murders. But one of the pieces of evidence discovered at the crime scene is a Jewish knife used for kosher slaughter. It is therefore assumed that the case is not unrelated to Poland’s past, and thus the screenplay written by Borys Lankosz and Zygmunt Miloszewski gradually turns the spotlight on the issue of anti-Semitism.

The cast includes Robert Więckiewicz and Jerzy Trela, two great stars of Polish cinema, and they are joined by such actors as Leon Wilczur, Magdalena Walach, Barbara Sobieraj, Aleksandra Hamkalo and Krzysztof Pieczynski.

Produced by Studio Rewers, A Grain of Truth was co-produced by TVP, Agora, Arttech Cinema, Narodowy Instytut Audiowizualny and Aeroplan, with support from the Polish Film Institute. Distribution in Polish theatres is handled by Next Film.
