The Franco-Colombian movie Echo Chamber triumphs at Punto de Vista
Echo Chamber by Guillermo Moncayo

Echo Chamber, a co-production between France and Colombia and Guillermo Moncayo’s fifth work, received the Punto de Vista Grand Prix for Best Film in the Official Section. The Central Region, with a budget of €10,000. The jury of the ninth edition of the Navarre International Documentary Film Festival – made up of North American critic Chris Fujiwara, Danish programmer Mads Mikkelsen, Italian professor Viva Paci, Belgian director Eric Pauwels and Spanish journalist Carlos Reviriego – valued “its poetic dimension and his work with image and sound”.

The Jean Vigo Award for Best Direction, worth €5,000, went to Diego Gutiérrez and Danniel Danniel, for Huellas (lit. Footprints) (Mexico): “a mirror in which to explore the human condition and the limits of image”, by taking the camera into the apartment, full of objects, of a man who recently passed away, shortly before all of that would be demolished. The €3,000 to Best Short Film went to The Blazing World, from the US, directed by Jessica Bardsley: “a movie that considers kleptomania and depression with found-footage techniques and a deep, furious and confessional honesty”.

The competition, hosted by artist Oskar Alegría (read interview) and held between 10 and 15 February in Pamplona (Navarre), also granted the following special awards: the Audience Award for Best Film (€1,500), went to Ziad Homsi and Mohammad Ali Atassi, directors of Our Terrible Country. This movie from Syria and Lebanon obtained a further €1,500 for the Youth Award for Best Film. The Rencontres Cinématografiques de Cerbère-Portbou Award went to Jorge León for Before We Go (Belgium).

And Proyecto X Films, with which Punto de Vista is financing the filming of a documentary in Navarre, will allow us to enjoy the movie at its next edition: its provisional title is No hablemos de ello (lit. Don’t talk about It) and the director is Galicia's Xiana Gómez.
