Introduced by Jennifer Lopez on stage at the Dolby Theatre, Canonero said "Thank you to the Academy and thank you Wes. This is for you; I want to share this with you. You’ve been a huge inspiration, you’re like an orchestra conductor, you’re a wonderful composer, you’re our director and you’ve been our inspiration. Without you I never would have been able to do this. Thank you for what you’ve done and for what you’ve allowed us all to achieve".

The costume designer, born in Turin in 1952, had also recently earned the 2015 Costume Designers Guild Award, a prize that every year awards the best costume designers for film and TV productions, as well as a Bafta (English Oscar), and on the eve of the ceremony was deemed the favourite in the running for the Oscar. Canonero is now working on a project for Prada.
