The screenplay, written by the director, centres on Mathilde, who is just an average woman. Only, in order to save the man that she loves from the hell of prison, she is quick to abandon her son to take her husband’s place behind bars. While her husband is on the run and her son holds this against her, from this point on Mathilde answers to the prison number 383205-B. However, Mathilde is no ordinary convict…

Produced by Julie Gayet and Nadia Turincev for Rouge International and by SuperProd (Clément Calvet and Jérémie Fajner), Jailbirds is co-produced by France 2 Cinéma and by Belgian Nexus Factory. Pre-bought by OCS, the film enjoys support from the region of Brittany. Distribution in French cinemas will be managed by ARP Sélection, international sales are being handled by Elle Driver that added the movie to its line-up at the recent Berlinale European Film Market.
