- On the Croisette this year, the Chinese filmmaker will receive the honour awarded annually by the Society of Film Directors (SRF)
Chinese director Jia Zhangke will receive the Carrosse d’Or, set to be handed out by the Society of Film Directors (SRF) during the opening ceremony of the 47th Directors’ Fortnight, which will take place from 14-24 May 2015 as part of the 68th Cannes Film Festival.
The Carrosse d’Or recognises a filmmaker chosen for the innovation they show in their movies, and for their boldness and intransigence in their directing and production. Since 2002, it has been bestowed upon such big names as Jacques Rozier, Clint Eastwood, Nanni Moretti, Ousmane Sembene, David Cronenberg, Alain Cavalier, Jim Jarmusch, Naomi Kawase, Agnès Varda, Jafar Panahi, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Jane Campion and Alain Resnais.
During the afternoon in the run-up to the handing out of the award, Jia Zhangke will lead a master class in the Croisette Theatre, following the screening of his 2000 film Platform.
