Fifth edition of Appointment with New French Cinema to start in Rome

From 8-12 April, the latest edition of Rendez-Vous – Appuntamento con il nuovo cinema francese (Appointment with New French Cinema) will unspool in Rome in prestigious settings such as the Casa del Cinema, the Cinema Quattro Fontane and the French Academy in Rome/Villa Medici.

The initiative put in place by the French Embassy in Italy, and supported by the Institut français Italy in collaboration with Unifrance, aims to explore the new trends in the lively panorama of French cinema.

The French Academy in Rome/Villa Medici is curating and hosting the “Cineasti del presente” (“French Cinema Today”) section, devoted to emerging directors. The three features selected this year are Eat Your Bones [+see also:

, the second feature by director, screenwriter and editor Robin Campillo, and winner of the Horizons section at the 2013 Venice International Film Festival. 

This fifth edition of Appointment with New French Cinema will be enriched by the participation of actor and director Mathieu Amalric, one of the most interesting figures on the French and international scene. Amalric will take part in an artist residency at Villa Medici, during which he will hold master classes and present his carte blanche, reminiscing about the time he took his first steps in the film industry. Among the films he has selected for screening are his first feature, Mange ta soupeThe Wimbledon Stage, On Tour [+see also:
