First week of filming for My First Highway by Kevin Meul

This week, filming started in Spain on Kevin Meul’s first feature film. My First Highway is a romantic drama, driven by the urgency of adolescence. Whilst on holiday at a campsite in Spain, Benjamin quickly succumbs to the charms of Annabel. But she has a big secret, which is the cause of a tragedy that ties them to one another whilst separating them forever. Between secrets and frustration, misunderstanding develops between the two teenagers, and Benjamin, struggles to control the flurry of contradicting emotions overcoming him. My First Highway, which spans a single summer, is a new take on the loss of innocence that signals the start of adolescence.
Playing the role of Benjamin is Aaron Roggeman, who was in Booster last year, and who has already been directed by Kevin Meul in the short film Cadet. Alongside him are Romy Lauwers, who appeared in Little Black Spiders [+see also:
film profile], and playing the parents, Mathias Sercu, a highly prolific actor who is a regular face on Flemish television and Natali Broods, who was discovered in Any Way the Wind Blows [+see also:

Kevin Meul was first noticed for his short films The Extraordinary Life of Rocky, and Cadet, which were screened at a number of International film festivals. Cadet, in particular, was selected for the South by Southwest Festival. He participated in the Berlinale Talents in 2012, and with My First Highway in the Binger Filmlab and the Torino Film Lab.
