The Atelier Network turns ten

- The Atelier Network will celebrate its tenth anniversary with its cooperation partner Arte at the Cannes Film Festival
More than 200 young film professionals from all across Europe are part of the Atelier Network, which was created by alumni of the Filmakademie in Ludwigsburg and La Fémis in Paris in 2001. The approach adopted by the association is to integrate young European talent into the market. Supported by Arte since its inception, the film-industry network includes producers, licence dealers, lawyers, directors and screenwriters who work in many different fields of the film business.
“Whenever a question gets sent out via our Atelier Network mailing list, you usually get an answer within minutes from somewhere on the continent,” says German producer Henning Kamm, of Hamburg-based Detail Film and new production outfit Zentropa Hamburg. “The sharing of contacts, experiences and job offers is extremely helpful and unique.” After attending the Cannes Film Festival as a Producer on the Move in 2014 (read the interview), this year the Atelier Network alumnus has been invited by the Cinéfondation L’Atelier initiative to pitch the short-film project Hilal, Feza and other Planets by Kutluğ Ataman to potential partners at Cannes.
At the upcoming gathering on the Croisette, the Atelier Network will be celebrating its tenth anniversary. The contribution of the alumni association has an important impact on the students on the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris programme. “The fact that the European film industry has been growing together through networking among its alumni is one of the most positive results of this study programme: that becomes clear when you look at its professional mobility, and the many joint projects that have grown out of it and reached beyond national borders,” underlines Roman Paul, producer and head of the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris. “We always remain in close and productive contact with our graduates – they’re the future of the industry.”
