– adapted from Danish author Lene Kaaberbøl’s bestselling novel, published in 25 countries – has started travelling.

“With visually stunning production design, impressive effects and great acting, this film does indeed have it all, and we are happy that so many international distributors have embraced it to let it meet an international audience,” said Rikke Ennis, CEO of TrustNordisk.

Starring a Scandinavian cast of Peter Plaugborg, Jakob Oftebro, Søren Malling, Maria Bonnevie, Stina Ekblad and Allan Hyde, Anders Thomas Jensen’s script follows Dina (the titular Shamer’s Daughter), who – like her mother, Melussina – can look straight into the soul of other people, making them feel ashamed of themselves. In the kingdom of Dunark, they are caught up in a murder mystery, where Melussina is taken prisoner, and it is up to Dina to uncover the truth.

The Danish Nepenthe Film production was staged by Nina Lyng and Eva Juel Hammerich, in co-production with Nordisk, Norway’s Storm Films, Sweden’s Filmlance, Iceland’s True North and the Czech Republic’s Sirena Film (part of the shooting took place at Prague’s Barrandov Studio).
