Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón will have the honour of chairing the International Jury of the Competition at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival, scheduled to take place from 2-12 September 2015 and directed by Alberto Barbera.

, the opening film of Venice 2013, which snagged a total of seven Oscars – Cuarón has had a further four nominations for the Academy Awards, in each case for films presented as world premieres at Venice: Y tu mamá también (2001, Best Screenplay), Children of Men (2006, Best Screenplay and Best Editing) and Gravity (2013, Best Film). In 2001, Y tu mamá también won the Osella Award for Best Screenplay (written by Carlos and Alfonso Cuarón) and the Marcello Mastroianni Award (Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna) at Venice, which was at that time again headed by Alberto Barbera. In 2006, Children of Men won the Osella for Best Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki).
