The 20th Wallimage/Bruxellimage session supports new films by Sam Garbarski and Harry Cleven

- The Brussels-Walloon investment fund will back two Belgian films by seasoned auteurs, Sam Garbarski and Harry Cleven, and four French feature debuts
For its 20th session, Wallimage/Bruxellimage has accepted no fewer than six feature-film projects, including two Belgian movies. The first is the latest film by Sam Garbarski, who on this title will again partner up with Moritz Bleibtreu, the actor from his Vijay and I [+see also:

film profile]. This time around, the German actor will perform partly in his mother tongue, as David und die Teilacher unfolds in Germany, just after the Second World War. It follows the story of a group of Jewish friends who have decided to stay put despite the ill treatment they have had to endure, as they attempt to get back on their feet financially by selling household linen. Very soon, one of them is questioned by the US Army because he is suspected of being a Nazi collaborator. The film will be shot in Luxembourg and Germany next autumn, if all goes to plan. An adaptation of the novel of the same name by German author Michel Bergmann, who is also a co-screenwriter, the film will be co-produced by Entre Chien et Loup together with its Luxembourgish and German partners.
The other Belgian film being supported marks director Harry Cleven’s return to the big screen after having made several projects for television. Mon Ange tells the intriguing story of a young boy with the power of invisibility who falls in love with a young blind girl. The movie promises to be both poetic and surreal, so it is hardly surprising to discover that the project sees the involvement of some of the team behind The Brand New Testament [+see also:

film profile], the upcoming film by Jaco Van Dormael, which will be presented at the Directors’ Fortnight this coming Sunday. Mon Ange was co-written with novelist Thomas Gunzig (also the writer of Van Dormael’s film), and was produced by Terra Incognita (Van Dormael’s own company) and Climax Films.
