Award-winning French screenwriter Xavier Nemo is preparing his directorial debut, The 11th, with an international, star-studded cast including Uma Thurman, Faran Tahir (US), Christopher Lee (UK), Michael Nyqvist, Lena Olin (Sweden), Lars Mikkelsen, Paprika Steen and Søren Malling (Denmark).

At the Cannes Film Festival yesterday, Danish international sales boutique LevelK announced it had partnered up with Renaud Laplanche and Nemo’s Paris-based Dog One Productions for the feature – an ensemble drama of eight interwoven stories taking place 24 hours before 9/11, all coming to an end at the very moment when the news of the attacks against the World Trade Center hit TV screens around the world.

“We all remember precisely where we were that day. I wanted to make the film about memory and the dates that matter, not about politics,” said Nemo. “I wanted to ‘paint the cave walls’ with a universal, redeeming tale of hope, life and love. That’s what brings me to the cinema as a moviegoer in the first place.”

”It is an exceptionally well-structured and well-written script. With 9/11 as a gate opener, the film follows eight different characters, merging together with perfection. The cast and crew are also impressive,” added Tine Klint, CEO of LevelK, based in Copenhagen with offices in New York.

Scheduled to shoot between September and November, from Nemo’s screenplay, The 11th will be produced by Laplanche and Olivier Piasentin, with Jean-Charles Levy as executive producer. Among the crew are Swiss cinematographer Thomas Hardmeier and French editor Christophe Pinel.
