The first Italy | Sundance Institute Screenwriters’ Workshop is born

The Sundance Institute and Capalbio Cinema have announced the first Italy | Sundance Institute Screenwriters’ Workshop, in recognition and support of emerging filmmakers in Europe. Founded on the model of the Institute’s prestigious Screenwriters’ Lab in Utah, the workshop comprises a four-day programme designed to offer independent screenwriters full immersion in order to enable them to work intensively on the screenplays for their first or second works. Joan Tewkesbury and Erin Cressida Wilson will serve as advisors at the workshop.

The eight projects will be selected through an online call. The deadline for applications is 1 June 2015.

The workshop will take place from 8-11 July in the setting of the 22nd Capalbio International Film Festival, which, ever since it was founded with Michelangelo Antonioni as its godfather, has been a showcase for new generations of cinematic talents hailing from all around the world. For this occasion, two key players in the promotion of film culture in Italy, the Fondazione Sistema Toscana and the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, are joining forces for the first time to enhance this project that will enable European talents to acquire the best and most polished tools for their trade.

Paul Federbush, international director of the Sundance Institute Feature Film Program, remarked: “As part of our sustained commitment to supporting international artists, in the last 25 years we have hosted programmes in Brazil, Mexico, Jordan, Turkey, Japan, Israel and Central Europe. We are excited to partner with Capalbio on this new programme and look forward to deepening our creative support for emerging filmmakers across Europe.”

The guidelines for taking part in the Italy | Sundance Institute Screenwriters’ Workshop are available here (for more information, you can email info@capalbiocinema.com).
