Acclaimed documentary experts to provide guidance to Ex Oriente Film participants
by Maša Marković
- Viktor Kossakovsky, Jon Bang Carlsen, Nino Kirtadze and Iikka Vehkalahti are among the confirmed tutors
Twelve Eastern and Central European documentary projects selected to take part in Ex Oriente Film 2015 will first meet their tutors in Rijeka, Croatia on 20 July. The motto of the first, week-long session of this year-round workshop is "Find Your Originality", as the documentary filmmakers are about to analyse the content, background, main characters and storytelling options for their projects, and place them within an international context. An experienced team of exceptional international experts will be present to provide guidance and valuable feedback.
Some of the most highly renowned names of the 2015 edition are the acclaimed Russian director and one of the world's most distinctive filmmakers, Viktor Kossakovsky; the famous director, screenwriter and producer, known for exploring the boundaries between documentary and fiction, Jon Bang Carlsen; Nino Kirtadze, winner of the European Film Academy Best Documentary Award; and Iikka Vehkalahti, the former long-term commissioning editor of YLE. Peter Kerekes, Jan Gogola and Vanja Jambrović have also confirmed their participation as tutors. They will be accompanied by the three head tutors from the programme: Mikael Opstrup (head of studies at EDN), Filip Remunda (director and producer, Hypermarket Film) and Ivana Pauerová Milošević (director, script editor), as well as Aleš Suk and Željka Suková from Udruga Ukus, the organisers of the parallel REFINERI workshop.
The complete list of tutors can be found here. If you would like to meet these professionals in person and have them consult on your project, there is still a chance to apply and follow in the footsteps of Ex Oriente Film alumni such as Bakhmaro, Village Without Women and Domino Effect.
The deadline for submissions is 1 June.
