The 14th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (29 May – 7 June, in Cluj-Napoca) kicks off today with an opening gala hosted by the city’s impressive Unirii Square. The ceremony will be followed by the screening of Wild Tales [+see also:

, the Academy Award-nominated feature by Damián Szifrón.

Hundreds of filmmakers, actors, film-industry professionals and journalists from all over the world are expected at Cluj-Napoca over the next ten days. The main jury consists of French producer Juliette Lepoutre, Buenos Aires Lab director Violeta Bava, Romanian actress Olimpia Melinte, Georgian director George Ovashvili, and American programmer and film critic Dennis Lim. Twelve first and second features are vying for the Transilvania Trophy, the festival’s top award (see the news).

Actress Nastassja Kinski is the special guest at this edition and will be the recipient of a Special Award for Contribution to World Cinema (see the news). Meanwhile, Romanian actor Marin Moraru will receive an Excellence Award.

TIFF 2015 will screen 191 features and 32 short films, with a healthy selection (68%) of European productions. Norwegian and Argentinean cinema will be honoured through two extensive Focus sidebars. 

The awards will be announced on 6 June.
