raided theatres, Finnish director Timo Vuorensola and producer Tero Kaukomaa are almost ready to film the sequel, Iron Sky: The Coming Race, which will shoot from October for Helsinki’s Iron Sky Universe and Germany’s 27 Films Production.

Last week (12 June), the Finnish Film Foundation chipped in €0.9 million worth of support for the €12 million sci-fi action-comedy (the budget has mainly been raised through crowdfunding) starring Germany’s Udo Kier and Julia Dietze, with New Zealand’s Stephanie Paul.

At Cannes, Germany’s Atlas International signed for international sales of the sequel to Iron Sky, the €7.5 million dark sci-fi comedy that took 183,000 admissions domestically, was sold to more than 60 territories and won an AACTA, the Australian Oscar.

Another “dark comedy making fun of the mega-budget Hollywood sci-fi epics, with loads of politically incorrect humour and a storyline that digs into the beginning of mankind”, according to Kaukomaa, Iron Sky: The Coming Race was scripted by US writer Dalan Musson

Twenty years after the events of the first film, the former Nazi moon base has become the last refuge of mankind. Earth has been devastated by a nuclear war, but buried under the wasteland lies a power that could save the last of humanity.

To rescue the human race from the Vril – the ancient, shape-shifting reptilian race and its army of dinosaurs, responsible for the greatest atrocities in history and now in control of the entire world – it will be necessary to send a small team to Earth and salvage the Holy Grail.

Co-financed by Finnish pubcaster Yleisradio, the film is scheduled for domestic release in February 2017.
