(2007), director Magaly Richard-Serrano is returning to film, after she took a detour via TV (which earned her awards at Luchon and La Rochelle). Written by Claude Le Pape (nominated for the César Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2015 for Love at First Fight) and Magaly Richard Serrano, the story recounts the last-ditch tour by Varek, an unusual hip-hop group. It is fronted by Stan, real name Eliane: dedicated to serving her art, she has spent 30 years perfecting her golden flow and bad faith on the decks. She can count her allies on one hand: her younger, six-and-a-half-foot-tall brother who would prefer to lead a normal life, her two worn-out mates from the council estate and a new DJ, who is as white as they are black. From tiny rooms off the beaten track in hotels on the outskirts of the city, limping along at top volume, Varek is about to go a lot further than they expected. And Stan will not really end up where she had planned. It is their time to shine...

Produced by Nathalie Mesuret and Bertrand Gore for Blue Monday Productions, Stan is benefiting from support from the CNC’s advance on receipts, pre-purchases by OCS (first window) and Ciné+, backing from the Ile-de-France and Upper Normandy regions, and support from the Cofinova Sofica, the Images of Diversity Fund and the Val-de-Marne department. The shoot, which kicked off with a week in Paris, then continued for three weeks in Upper Normandy and will now head back to the capital for three additional weeks. Distribution in French theatres will be handled by Version Originale/Condor in the second quarter of 2016. International sales will be managed by Other Angle Pictures.
