With his award-winning The Pasta Detectives series of children’s books, German author Andreas Steinhöfel provided the perfect source material for popular kids’ movies. While the first part of the trilogy, The Pasta Detectives, won the Lola for the Best Children’s Film at the German Film Awards and the sequel The Pasta Detectives 2 [+see also:

). Forming part of the team once again is Martin Gypkens, who has adapted the story for the screen.

The plot centres on two clever young boys who are setting off on a new adventure. When Rico inherits a collection of stones, they notice that the most precious one is missing. While Rico’s mother is away on holiday with her friend in Sri Lanka, the pint-sized duo of detectives seizes the opportunity and follows the trail to the Baltic Sea.

The third instalment in the trilogy comes with a first-rate cast. Besides young leading actors Anton Petzold and Juri Winkler, the project has a broad range of German actors on board, such as Karoline Herfurth, Ronald Zehrfeld, Ursela Monn, Milan Peschel and David Kross. Further big names include Detlev Buck, Henry Hübchen, Heike Makatsch and Katharina Schüttler.

Produced by Lieblingsfilm and Fox International Productions Germany, Rico, Oskar und der Diebstahlstein has received production support from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig Holstein, FilmFörderFonds Bayern, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, the Federal Film Board and the Federal Film Fund. Twentieth Century Fox Germany will release the picture in 2016.
