Nijenhuis shooting romantic comedy, Skirt Day
by Vitor Pinto
- The new film by the director of Tuscan Wedding follows a group of love-seekers attending a cooking class for singles
Principal photography is under way for Johan Nijenhuis’ new film, Skirt Day [+see also:
film profile]. Originally entitled Rokjesdag, the film refers to the first day of spring, on which women suddenly wear skirts with bare legs underneath. The term “rokjesdag” (“skirt day”) was coined by late Dutch columnist Martin Bril and is now well established in the Netherlands.
Nijenhuis and scriptwriter Eveline Hagenbeek use “rokjesdag” as the starting point for this romantic comedy, in which 16 colourful characters attend a “Cooking Class for Singles”, hoping to find their match during cooking speed-dates – proof that there is life beyond Tinder.
Produced by the director and Ingmar Menning for Johan Nijenhuis & Co, the ensemble piece stars Lieke van Lexmond, Birgit Schuurman, David Lucieer, Loek Peter and Carly Wijs. Entertainment One Benelux has scheduled the theatrical release for spring 2016.
