film profile], the new film by multi-award-winning Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur, will have the honour of opening the 72nd edition of the Venice Film Festival (2-12 September 2015), out of competition. The world premiere of Everest will take place on 2 September in the Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema) on the Lido.
Based on extraordinary events that occurred during the bid to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest depicts the journey of two expeditions that pushed themselves beyond all the limits as they were faced with one of the worst snowstorms ever. While their courage is put to the test by the fury of the elements, the mountaineers will have to overcome almost insurmountable obstacles, and the obsession of a lifetime will turn into a fight for survival.
Everest is a Working Title Films production starring a stellar cast: Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal. The movie was shot in Nepal on the slopes of Mount Everest, in the Italian Alps, at the Cinecittà Studio in Rome and at Pinewood Studios in the UK. Universal Pictures will distribute Everest all around the world; the film will hit Italian screens on 24 September.
