Golden Lion winner Tavernier gets a "carte blanche"
Master of French cinema Bertrand Tavernier

This year at the Venice Film Festival, for the first time ever, a winner of a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement has been given a "carte blanche" to select a number of rare, overlooked or underrated titles for the Venice Classics section.

The master of French cinema (and passionate film critic) Bertrand Tavernier – who will be awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 72nd Venice Film Festival (2-12 September 2015) – will be there in person, acting as Guest Director of the Venice Classics section. He will present four masterpieces he has chosen to audiences ahead of their screenings: White Paws by Jean Grémillon (France, 1949), a restoration having its world premiere: Gaumont; She Wolf by Alberto Lattuada (Italy, 1953), a restoration also having its world premiere: CSC – National Film Library in collaboration with FilmauroRay of Sunshine by Pál Fejös (Germany/Austria, 1933), a screening organised in collaboration with Filmarchiv Austria; and A Matter of Life and Death by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger (United Kingdom, 1946), a screening organised in collaboration with Park Circus Limited.
