Demme and Costanzo to chair the Horizons and First Film juries at Venice

US director Jonathan Demme and Italian filmmaker Saverio Costanzo have been chosen as the chairs of two of the juries at the 72nd Venice Film Festival (2-12 September) – those of the Horizons section and the Lion of the Future - Laurentiis Prize for a First Film, respectively. As previously announced, the chair of the 72nd Venice Competition Jury is director Alfonso Cuarón.

Widely considered to be one of the most influential auteurs of contemporary cinema, Demme has taken part in the Venice Film Festival a number of times with some of his most important titles, such as The Manchurian Candidate in 2004, out of competition, and more recently Enzo Avitabile Music Life [+see also:

 (2012, again out of competition). His new opus is Ricki and the Flash (2015), starring Meryl Streep. 

Saverio Costanzo garnered huge critical acclaim with Hungry Hearts [+see also:

 (2014), his fourth feature (which he also wrote), presented in competition at the most recent Venice Film Festival, where it won both Volpi Cups: for Best Actress (Alba Rohrwacher) and Best Actor (Adam Driver). Hungry Hearts also had seven nominations for the David di Donatello Awards and won the Fipresci Prize at the Stockholm Film Festival.
