Film London teams up with Bob & Co for Shakespeare India initiative

Film London has partnered with media investment firm Bob & Co to raise £200,000 in production financing for its Microwave International: Shakespeare India scheme. This is in addition to a deal struck with India’s Cinestaan Film Company in April to raise £250,000.

Six Indo-UK teams are currently in London receiving training under the aegis of Film London’s Microschool programme mentored by industry experts including producers Andrea Calderwood (The Last King of Scotland [+see also:

). One Shakespeare-themed project will be greenlighted out of the six, and it will be produced and released in time to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the writer's death in 2016.

The selected projects are Realism (based on Macbeth) - UK writer/director Ashish Ghadiali and Indian producer Umesh PawarCaesar (based on Julius Caesar) - UK writer/director Nirpal Bhogal, UK co-writer Mike Powell and Indian producer Achin JainThe Heart of the City (based on The Taming of the Shrew) – Indian director Pratyusha Gupta, UK writer Sharmila Chauhan, UK producer Ameenah Ayub and Indian producer Smriti JainMathura (based on As You Like It) – Indian writer/director Rajat Kapoor and UK producer Uzma HasanThe Crorepatis (based on Titus Andronicus) - Indian writer/director Bornila Chatterjee and Indian writer/producer Tanaji Dasgupta with UK producer Kurban Kassam; and Love and Longing in Rohtak (based on The Merchant of Venice) - Indian writer/director Vikas Chandra and UK producer Ajay Rai
