Romanian box office grows 19% in the first semester
Aferim! by Radu Jude

The Romanian box office has seen approximately 19% growth this year, both in terms of admissions and earnings, according to the country’s leading film website, Cinemagia. During the first six months of 2015, approximately 5.45 million tickets were sold in local cinemas, with total earnings of €22.8 million.

The significant increase is partly attributed to the immense popularity of Furious 7, which became the most successful release in Romania since Titanic with 650,000 tickets sold to watch the film on the big screen. The Universal Pictures hit was followed by Fifty Shades of Grey (317,000 admissions) and The Avengers: Age of Ultron (233,000 admissions).
