The meeting to choose the nominee from the nine candidate films will be held on Monday 28 September at the headquarters of the ANICA, which acts on behalf of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. The nominee will be announced on 14 January 2016, whilst the Oscars award ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday 28 February 2016. 

The selection committee will be made up of Nicola Borrelli, the Director General for Cinema of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism; composer Nicola Piovani; director Daniele Luchetti; producers Tilde Corsi and Olivia Musini; distributor Andrea Occhipinti; Stefano Rulli, the President of the Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (the Italian Film School); and journalists Natalia Aspesi and Gianni Canova.
