The UK has submitted Welsh language Under Milk Wood [+see also:

 by Kevin Allen (Twin Town) in the Academy Awards foreign language category. Murray Lachlan Young, Allen and Michael Breen adapted Welsh icon Dylan Thomas’ work, which began life as a radio drama in 1954 and later became a stage play and then was the basis for a 1972 film by Andrew Sinclair, starring another Welsh icon Richard Burton, and Elizabeth Taylor.

The film is set in the fictional Welsh seaside town of Llareggub (to be read backwards). Rhys Ifans plays the narrator and singer Charlotte Church co-stars, with rugby star Gareth Edwards and politician Neil Kinnock in guest appearances. It is a S4C, Goldfinch Pictures and Ffatti Ffilms co-production.

Metro International Entertainment is handling international sales. Allens and Ifans produced alongside Stephen Malit (London – The Modern Babylon [+see also:

The nominations will be announced 14 January. The Oscars are on 28 February.
