, this time around the filmmaker is trying his hand at a chronicle revolving around crime and intimacy, based on real events that unfolded in Corsica and Paris between 1991 and 2001. And as was the case with his feature debut, which boasted a very strong air of authenticity, he will be calling in only Corsican actors, with the casting still being finalised.

with Pascale Ferran), the story sees Stéphane, who has been in exile in Paris for the past year, decide to head back to Corsica in spite of the death threats hanging over his head, in order to attend the funeral of his childhood friend, who has just been murdered. It’s a chance for him to reminisce about the events that led him, a cultured petty bourgeois from Bastia, to move from petty crime onto a mob mentality, then from a mob mentality onto political radicalisation and the underground movement, and then finally onto banishment...

Produced by Frédéric Jouve for Les Films Velvet, A Violent Life is being co-produced by Arte France Cinéma and Stanley White. Having been pre-purchased by Canal+ and OCS, the film is also being backed by the CNC’s advance on receipts and the Corsica region. The shoot will take place from 7-11 December, and then from 11 April to 10 June 2016, in Corsica, Paris, Italy and Switzerland. Distribution in France and international sales will be handled by Pyramide.
