Tarantino: Ennio Morricone is like Mozart

- The Italian composer won the prize for Best Original Score for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight — the third time that he has been awarded by the foreign press in Hollywood

Tarantino: Ennio Morricone is like Mozart
Quentin Tarantino, with Ennio Morricone's award for the soundtrack of The Hateful Eight

“This is really cool. As far as I'm concerned, he's my favorite composer. And when I say favorite composer, I don't mean movie composer, that ghetto. I'm talking about Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert. That's who I'm talking about". These were Quentin Tarantino’s words as he took the Golden Globe awarded to Italian composer Ennio Morricone for the soundtrack of his film The Hateful Eight back to the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles. It is the first time that Morricone has done the entire soundtrack for one of Tarantino’s films. On other occasions, he has used excerpts written by Morricone for other films.

This is the third time that the foreign press in Hollywood has awarded its prize to the 87-year-old composer. In thanking him, Tarantino erroneously said, “Morricone has never won an award here in America for one of my films”. In actual fact, the great Morricone won Golden Globes for The Mission in 1987 and The Legend of 1900 in 2000, and an Oscar for his career achievements in 2007.
