- Harry Brown writer will film a modern-day noir in September
Screenwriter Gary Young, acclaimed for Michael Caine starrer Harry Brown [+see also:
film profile], is all set to make his feature directorial debut with Henry, based on his 2012 short. The film follows the son of a ruthless assassin desperately trying to escape his destiny and Young describes it as “a stylish, modern day film noir that deals with the existentialist themes of nature and nurture.” The UK’s Nice One Film is producing in association with Canada’s Gearshift Films. Shantelle Rochester-Henry (The Rise of the Krays) and Nancy Bressolles (London Heist) are producers for Nice One Film, alongside Jordan Barker (Torment) and Borga Dorter (The Waiting Room [+see also:
film profile]) for Gearshift Films.
The UK’s Starline Entertainment is on board to sell world rights. Starline’s Partner and Director of Acquisitions, Piers Nightingale, discovered the project at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2015. Filming is expected to begin in September. Meanwhile, Starline is working with Nice One Film and Gearshift Films to develop and package the project for the international market.
Nightingale said, “We are thrilled to be working with Shantelle, Nancy and the rest of the team on such an exciting project. With Harry Brown Gary Young showed exceptional talent as a writer and, now doubling up as director, Henry promises to be every bit as distinctive."
Rochester-Henry, said, “We are excited to be working with Gary on his directorial debut Henry as he is very talented and a good friend. Henry promises to thrill and touch the audience with exceptionally written twists to keep you on the edge of your seat.”
Casting and further developments will be announced soon.
