Land of Mine victorious at the Luxembourg City Film Festival

Land of Mine victorious at the Luxembourg City Film Festival

The sixth Luxembourg City Film Festival came to an end on Friday evening, crowning Danish film Land of Mine [+see also:

by Martin Zandvliet with the Grand Prize. The film, which focuses on German prisoners of war who were used to demine the coast of Denmark at the end of World War II, also took home the Young Jury Award and the Audience Award.

But Land of Mine was not the only Scandinavian film to make a splash: Swedish director Magnus von Horn’s debut, The Here After [+see also:

, was handed the Critics’ Award. The film centres on a teenage boy returning home after serving time in prison and having to face a suspicious community that has not forgotten his crime.

In the documentary section, the winner was Czech film Mallory by Helena Trestikova, about a former drug addict trying to reintegrate herself into society.

According to the organisers, over 200,000 people attended the festival this year. The next edition will be held from 2-12 March 2017.
