Filmmakers from all over the world on tour with CinemadaMare 2016

There’s still time until 31 May to apply for the 2016 edition of CinemadaMare, the travelling festival/campus that brings together young filmmakers from all over the world (56 nations have been represented at the festival to date) and allows them to shoot their films in the most beautiful locations in Italy. Born in 2003 from an idea of journalist Franco Rina, this major annual gathering of young filmmakers (aged between 20 and 35-years-old) kicks off on 25 June, will stop off in 14 Italian regions, and will finish up in September, as usual, at the Venice Film Festival.

There are two competitions: the Main Competition, a competition for short films that have already been completed (with a maximum running time of 25 minutes; the deadline for entries for which is 30 April 2016), produced all over the world, released and unreleased and of all genres (fiction, comedy, thriller, horror, documentary, animation, videoclip); and there’s the Weekly Competition, a competition for participants who shoot their short films during the festival, the screenings of which are held on the last day of each stage in the festival. In 2015 alone, participants shot 310 short films. The event also guarantees the presence of important figures from the world of film every year (past guests include Wim Wenders, Abel Ferrara, Ken Loach, Giuseppe Tornatore, and Margarethe von Trotta) for meetings and workshops.

To book a place at CinemadaMare 2016 - A Travelling Campus, you need to fill out the entry form available on the website. The minimum stay is four weeks, travel is by coach and accommodation is provided free of charge in schools in partnership with the festival. There is no registration or participation fee to take part in the campus part of the festival, only the commitment and perseverance necessary to complete at least one film during each week of your stay.
