The fact that Mario Casas is not making an appearance in the fifth movie by Fernando González Molina has caught everyone’s attention, after he had clearly been the director’s favourite actor in his previous hit films Fuga de cerebros [+see also:

(the latter proving to be the so-far number-one film in the 2016 chart of Spanish titles, having taken over €16 million). On this occasion, the filmmaker from Navarre has replaced the Galician hunk with pretty San Sebastián-born actress Marta Etura (who will also appear in the new movie by Alberto Rodríguez: El hombre de las mil caras [+see also:

by Oriol Paulo, which is in the middle of post-production – read the news), Nadcon Film and Atresmedia Cine. Its screenplay, written by Luiso Berdejo (the director of The New Daughter), introduces us to regional policewoman Amaia Salazar (Etura), who has to return to the tiny village where she was born – and had no intention of ever returning to – to deal with not only an investigation into two crimes, but also the ghosts from her past. Fears, traumas and local superstitions will end up wrestling with the logical reasoning, science and common sense necessary to arrest a miscreant who is going around killing teenagers.

The cast of El guardián invisible is topped off by actresses Elvira Mínguez (nominated at the most recent Goya Awards for her supporting role in Retribution [+see also:

), who step into the shoes of the lead character’s sisters. González Molina will once again be teaming up with art director Antón Laguna, who won the Goya Award in his respective category for Palm Trees in the Snow.
