As announced eight days ago by General Delegate Thierry Frémaux, six additional features have earned a place in the official selection of the 69th Cannes Film Festival (11-22 May 2016 – read the article). Standing out among them, Asghar Farhadi is entering the competition for the Palme d'Or (the number of contenders for which now stands at 21) for the second time, after The Past [+see also:

in 2013 (which earned Bérénice Bejo the Best Actress Award). The Salesman [+see also:

, the seventh feature by the Iranian filmmaker, who also has such titles as About Elly (winner of the Best Director Award at Berlin in 2009) and A Separation (Golden Bear at the 2011 Berlinale and the 2012 Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film) under his belt, was co-produced by Paris-based outfit Memento, which is also in charge of its international sales.

by Egypt’s Mohamed Diab, has seen the addition of an 18th title: the US production Hell or High Water by British director David Mackenzie (who already took part in Un Certain Regard in 2013 with Young Adam, and has been selected in competition at Berlin twice – in 2005 and 2007).
