The Trentino Film Commission launches T-Green Film

- CANNES 2016: The initiative makes it the only regional film fund to certify and reward sustainable productions

The Trentino Film Commission launches T-Green Film

Aiming to reward those productions that choose a sustainable path and those that “commit to” green practices, a new instrument launched by the Trentino Film Commission will promote environmental sustainability in the film world, after it was presented today at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, during a panel that presented the best green practices in European cinema. The procedural guidelines for certification were prepared in conjunction with Appa, the provincial agency for environmental protection, and TIS Engineering.

The way T-Green Film works is fairly straightforward: film productions are requested to optimise their electricity consumption and vehicle usage, to go green when it comes to managing their choice of materials and their catering timetables, to keep a close eye on their recycling, and to foster awareness-raising campaigns.

Meanwhile, Appa is responsible for verifying whether these actions are being complied with, in accordance with the procedures set out in the guidelines. Those films or TV series that commit to attaining certification will receive additional points via a new entry that has been inserted into the evaluation criteria used for allocating subsidies from the Trentino Film Fund.

This certification and reward mechanism is currently the only one of its kind in Europe. However, despite it being brand new, the first film has already signed up: namely, Resina, the new movie by Renzo Carbonera, which is being produced by OneArt, and is being shot in Luserna and other areas of Trentino. The story explores the extraordinary history behind mountain choirs.
