Becker, King of Lolas

by (g.r.)

Becker, King of Lolas09/06/2003 - The gala for the German Film Awards was held on Friday night at the Tempodrom in Berlin, and all the predictions that the sparkling comedy by Wolfgang Becker would win hands down, came true. The film has already won the award for Best European Film at the last Berlinale and it has been the real cinematographic "hit" of the year in Germany, gaining an incredible success with the public. Good bye, Lenin! [trailer] won the prize for Best Director (handed over by the Minister for Culture, Christine Weiss), Best Actor (which went to Daniel Brühl), Best Supporting Actor (for Florian Lukas) and the prizes for Best Editing, Art Direction and Music. But there was a surprise defeat for Kathrin Sass; the jury preferred to award the Best Actress prize to Hannelore Eisner, the star of Mein letzter Film. Good bye, Lenin! also won the audience awards for German Film of the Year, and Daniel Brühl was voted as the Actor of the Year.
