The 56th edition of the Krakow Film Festival concluded over the weekend with a bevy of award winners in both the documentary and short categories.

In the International Documentary Competition, the Golden Horn for Best Film went to Zosya Rodkevich for My Friend Boris Nemtsov [+see also:

. The film is a timely and vital examination of the Russian politician – and vehement opponent of Vladimir Putin – who was assassinated near the Kremlin in February 2015. The jury described the film as “…an intimate and raw portrait of an election, and ultimately a portrait of our relationship to power.”

In the secondary Silver Horn categories, awards were won by Romeo e Giulietta [+see also:

(Italy) for Best Medium Length Film, Manor (Canada) for Best Feature Length Documentary, and the award for Best Cinematography went to Lithuanian Kristina Sereikaitė for her work on the film Dead Ears.

The festival’s Short Film Award, the Golden Dragon, went to Israeli film The Mute’s House, directed by Tamar Kay, while the Golden Heynal – for the Festival’s DocFilmMusic competiton – went to Swiss documentary Melody of Noise. Plaudits in the National Competition went to Wojciech Kasperski for Icon, in which the history of a Siberian psychiatric hospital is laid bare.
