The Young Film Market - Mercato del Cinema Giovane e Indipendente is a new initiative that will be held on Tuesday 26 July as part of the Social World Film Festival in Vico Equense (Naples) from 23 to 31 July. “New film talents have few occasions to meet established professionals and present their works to them”, explained the 26-year-old general director of the Social World Film Festival, Giuseppe Alessio Nuzzo, who is a director himself. “They are given few opportunities at festivals such as Venice and Rome. We realised we needed to create a European young and independent film market, which we will launch at the sixth edition of the Festival this year.”
This pilot edition, which already has a guest list of over 100 accredited professionals, “will have an area for stands showing innovations in film, with the presence of companies such as Zeiss and Panatronics, a space for exchange and two rooms in which the first few minutes of films that have just been finished or are in the process of being finished will be screened, along with completed works, teasers, trailers and special projects, to an audience of industry professionals”, Nuzzo explained to Cineuropa.
In the afternoon the conference, “Prospettive per il cinema italiano: i nuovi talenti” (lit. “Prospects for Italian film: new talents”) will be held with producers (such as Giuseppe Lepore of Bielle Re, Paolo Spina of Revolver, Mauro Capece of Evoque), independent distributors and film institutions, with a series of speeches on the theme of independent film and new talents, followed by a first round of exchanges in which young writers and professionals will be introduced to institutions, producers and distributors. Finally a second round of exchanges will enable face-to-face meetings in the film suite, set up especially for the purpose (the event is reserved for those with Festival accreditation and the Market, which can be requested free-of-charge by all film industry professionals via the website www.mercatocinema.com).
The Young Film Market will take place, like the Social World Film Festival, thanks to the support of the Campania Region and the Municipality of Vico Equense, with the patronage of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism – Directorate General of Cinema and in partnership with the Campania Region Film Commission.
