Sophie Fiennes to film Dublin concert for Grace Jones documentary

Blinder Films and Sligoville in association with u:mack and Mother have announced a performance for the camera by Grace Jones and her band at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on 21 September. The concert will be featured prominently in the documentary Grace Jones – The Musical of My Life, a long gestating collaboration between filmmaker Sophie Fiennes (best known for The Pervert’s Guide to the Cinema and The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology [+see also:
film profile]) and musician, actress and model Grace Jones that began in 2005.
Fiennes said, “This project with Grace has been an extraordinary journey ‘following the Yellow Brick Road'. We look forward to welcoming her audience to participate in our film and contributing to conjuring the Grace magic.”
Grace Jones - The Musical of My Life is produced by Katie Holly for Blinder Films (Ireland), Fiennes and Shani Hinton in association with JW Films (US) and financed by BBC Films and the British Film Institute in association with Roads Entertainment (Ireland) and the TBA21 Foundation (Austria) with the participation of the Irish Film Board. Picturehouse Entertainment will distribute the film in the UK in 2017.
Jamaica-born Jones enjoyed a successful career as a supermodel working for the likes of Yves St. Laurent, Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin. As a musician, she was a regular in the UK charts and successful albums include Warm Leatherette, Nightclubbing, and Slave to the Rhythm. Her iconic film appearances include Conan the Destroyer, A View to a Kill and Boomerang.
