All seven titles were distributed in Italy between 1 October 2015 and 30 September 2016, in accordance with the rules. The meeting to select the Italian candidate from among the seven shortlisted movies will take place on Monday 26 September, at the headquarters of ANICA, which is acting as a representative of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The selection committee is made up of Nicola Borrelli, director general of cinema at the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, producer Tilde Corsi, distributor Osvaldo De Santis, journalist Piera Detassis, journalist Enrico Magrelli, distributor Francesco Melzi D’Eril, producer Roberto Sessa, director Paolo Sorrentino and author Sandro Veronesi.  

The Oscars ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday 26 February 2017.
