Regularly treading the thin line between documentary and fiction, this time the filmmaker will “officially” be working with the former genre (as was the case with The Learner) as he places his camera at the heart of a small village of 80 inhabitants in Greenland, following the story of a Danish primary-school teacher who is taking up his first job in this community of hunters and fishermen, which is cut off from the rest of the world for ten months of the year.

Produced by Grégoire Debailly (who has been a partner on all of Samuel Collardey’s features) for Geko Films, Une année polaire has a budget of around €2 million, which includes an advance on receipts from the CNC and backing from the Manon and La Banque Postale Image Soficas. The shoot will take place from January to June. Distribution in French theatres will be handled by Ad Vitam, while the international sales are being overseen by Kinology.
