by Luca Guadagnino, written by the Italian director with James Ivory and Walter Fasano, will be shown in the World Premiere section of the 33rd Sundance Film Festival, which will take place from 19 to 29 January in Park City, Utah.

The film is based on the book of the same name by André Aciman, who is considered one of the best LGBT novelists of recent years, and tells the story of a summer on the Ligurian Riviera twenty years ago. Elio is 17-years-old, the son of a university professor, a sensitive and well-educated musician who, like every year, is waiting for the “guest of the summer”, a student who will come from New York to work on their post-doctoral thesis. But Oliver, the young American student, wins over everyone with his beauty and casual ways. Elio is enthralled: they discuss films, books, and take long walks together and go swimming. And between them an unexpected desire is born, one which touches them to their core, through suffering and ecstasy.
