You too can be an exhibitor of independent films
A makeshift cinema somewhere in Spain

At the end of January, the Film2 platform became operational. The company has an entire catalogue of arthouse and independent films, and offers anyone the chance to become something that many film buffs could previously only have dreamed of: creating their own cinema and screening the films they love. All you need is a space big enough to host an audience, an internet connection and a projector, and then you just have to choose between the attractive films in its catalogue.

Thanks to this initiative, instigated by Antonio Dyaz and Jorge Massa, people in geographical locations where there are no longer any theatres can once again enjoy the marvels of the seventh art as a community, on the big screen and at affordable prices. This has already happened in Torrevieja (Alicante), Monachil (Granada) and Aranjuez, for example. Restaurants, coworking spaces, garages and cultural centres are all rediscovering the magic of cinema through this new aspect of the sharing economy.

The platform boasts a catalogue of more than 100 features, comprising fiction titles, documentaries, classics and more modern movies, which come directly from their production companies or from distributors such as Caramel Films and Feel Sales. Ida [+see also:

are just some of the prestigious titles on offer.

Its developers hope to hit the figure of 100 exhibitors before the end of 2017. They maintain that this new method of distributing films will revolutionise the exhibition model and will create a new window. Distributors and producers alike have embraced the idea with great interest, since it complements the commercial run of the movies and also breathes new life into areas where there has been a drastic reduction in the number of leisure activities available.

Film2 is officially recognised by the Spanish Film Academy, the General Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE) and the ICAA (Ministry of Culture), and is being supported by the Instituto Cervantes and its Hispanismo network, which is concerned with disseminating and teaching Castilian Spanish in universities around the globe.
