L'Europe autour de l'Europe crowns Godless

- Ralitza Petrova’s film has won the 2017 Sauvage Award, while Donkeyote and Mister Universo snagged Special Mentions
Handed out by a jury chaired by Hungarian filmmaker Istvan Szabó, the Sauvage Award of the 12th edition of the L'Europe autour de l'Europe Festival (which unspooled from 15 March–16 April in Paris) went to Godless [+see also:

film profile] by Bulgarian director Ralitza Petrova (winner of the Golden Leopard for Best Film and the Leopard for Best Actress at Locarno last year).
Two Special Mentions were handed out: one to Spaniard Chico Pereira for Donkeyote [+see also:
film profile] (popular at Rotterdam in January) and the other to the duo comprising Italy’s Tizza Covi and Austria’s Rainer Frimmel, for Mister Universo [+see also:
film profile] (Special Jury Mention at Locarno – set to be released in France on 26 April, courtesy of Zeugma Films).
In the competitive section dedicated to documentaries, organised for the second year in a row, the Présent Award was taken home by the Portuguese production Maybe Desert, Perhaps Universe by Karen Akerman and Miguel Seabra Lopes.
