It will come as no surprise that, at the 2017 Lolas-German Film Academy Awards ceremony, which took place on Friday night (28 April) at the palace of the Funkturm Berlin, Toni Erdmann [+see also:

topped off the Grand Slam that began last year at Cannes – where, after being selected in competition, the film garnered near-unanimous acclaim and honours from the international press (who then elected it the winner of their Grand Prix in 2016). Indeed, this off-the-wall, three-hour comedy, written and directed by Maren Ade, received six Lolas (out of six nominations), including the Golden Lola for Best Film, the Best Director and Best Screenplay Awards, and the Lolas for Best Lead Actor (thanks to the performance by Austria’s Peter Simonischek) and Actress (Sandra Hüller).
