Twelve first or second features will be competing for the Transilvania Trophy at the 16th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (2-11 June, Cluj-Napoca). After last year’s Trophy was won by Bogdan Mirică’s Dogs [+see also:

, this year no Romanian feature is competing for the festival’s top award, as several promising domestic films are waiting for more visible festivals to make their international debuts.

According to artistic director Mihai Chirilov, this year’s selection focuses on “life’s truths and fiction’s dares”; thus, the gathering is adopting a “truth or dare” approach to discovering or promoting the promising new voices of cinema. Seven of the 12 films hail from Europe, but Australia, the Middle East and South America are also represented in the TIFF competition.
