The 26th edition of CineEurope kicks off in Barcelona

The 26th edition of CineEurope kicks off in Barcelona

This is the seventh time that CineEurope is being held in the city of Barcelona: producers, exhibitors, sales agents, distributors and many more film-industry professionals have made the journey to the Catalan capital from both sides of the Atlantic. The convention aims to strengthen ties between Europe and the USA – hence the presence of major film companies from both places. Produced by The Film Expo Group, the trade fair is the official convention of the International Union of Cinemas (UNIC), an international association with a presence in 36 countries, which promotes the cultural, social and economic value of the seventh art.

CineEurope 2017 boasts a jam-packed schedule that will not be lacking in exclusive presentations of cutting-edge exhibition technology, interesting debates and seminars on various subjects that affect the film industry. There will also be prizes given out: Telecinco Cinema will receive the Award for Independent Producer of the Year, Eddy Duquenne (of Kinepolis) will get Exhibitor of the Year, the UNIC Award will be bestowed upon Italy’s Piero Fumagalli (the founder of Arcadia Cinema), Tony Chambers and Lee Jury (Disney) will pick up the Distributors’ Award, and another trophy will go to the founders of CineEurope, a group that includes Spaniards Tomás Naranjo (Kelonik), Jaime and Camilo Tarrazón (ACEC) and Pepe Battle, together with Joost Bert (Kinepolis), Lauge Nielsen (Pathé), Ad Weststrate and Stephane Monnot.

Around 3,500 industry professionals are expected to attend this annual rendezvous at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB), and they will be able to pay a visit to 122 stands manned by firms specialising in film exhibition and distribution.
