To Stay Alive: A Method and Oltremare declared best films in Bologna

It was the subtle dialogue between rock star Iggy Pop and writer Michel Houellebecq, at the centre of To Stay Alive: A Method, that won over the jury of the 13th Biografilm Film Festival in Bologna, which officially comes to a close today, 19 June. Indeed, the Dutch documentary directed by Arno Hagers, Erik Lieshout and Reinier van Brummelen was declared Best Film in the International Competition by the jury headed up by Michael Madsen. The same jury, made up of Chiara Griziotti, Clive Oppenheimer, Anna de Manincor and Menotti, awarded Nothingwood [+see also:

by French filmmaker Sonia Kronlund the LifeTales Award for most rousing biography, specifying that the award went to actor Qurban Ali Afzali in particular.

Turning to the Biografilm Italia section, the award for Best Film went to Oltremare by Loredana Bianconi, on the Italian colonies in Africa during fascism, whilst the LifeTales Award went to The Prince [+see also:

by Raffaele Passerini. The latter, which centres around two spurned artists living on the margins of society, also won the Audience Award and the Biografilm Follower Award for most well-loved film. Special Mentions also went to Italian-American title Spettacolo by Jeff Malmberg and Chris Shellen (International Competition) and Skyscraper Cinema [+see also:

 by Marco Bertozzi (Biografilm Italia).

Spettacolo also won the Audience Award in the International Competition, as did An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk, while audiences’ favourite film in the Contemporary Lives section was another Dutch title, Stranger in Paradise [+see also:
