Organised over three days as part of the professional sidebar of the Champs-Élysées Film Festival, the Paris Coproduction Village (helmed by the team behind the Les Arcs European Film Festival) kicks off today, showcasing 12 feature-film projects at the funding stage, which are joined by six projects by the residents of the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinéfondation (see the news on the selection). by Polish director Jan Komasa, who won an award at Cannes in 2004 with his short film Nice to See You, took part in the competition at Rotterdam with the omnibus film Ode to Joy, turned heads in the Berlinale Panorama in 2011 with his first feature as a solo director, Suicide Room [+see also:

Written by the director, the story of Corpus Christi revolves around 20-year-old Daniel, who, while serving his sentence in a youth detention centre, has been thinking about becoming a priest. However, just before he is paroled, he learns from the chaplain that because of his crime, no seminary will accept him. Upon his release, he puts on a clerical collar he stole previously and presents himself in the town as a priest on his holidays. He stands in for the local parish priest – a burnt-out secret alcoholic. His lack of experience, moral doubts and fear of being exposed are offset by his oratorical talent and charisma that flows from true faith. However, not everyone finds his unique pastoral methods appealing: the mayor and the sexton look upon him with suspicion...
