Script Pool Tallinn is the new script development competition that is being launched by Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, and submissions are already open. The aim of this new initiative is to give high-quality, innovative scripts the opportunity to reach the film industry – and then audiences.

Emerging scriptwriters, along with their attached producers, will have the chance to meet up with script doctors and other industry specialists who will help them to enhance the potential of their scripts. The truly innovative aspect of this is that the projects will not only be limited to feature-length films, as more, evolving forms of storytelling will be included, such as virtual reality, video games, web series and augmented-reality productions.

Consisting of two different phases, Script Pool Tallinn will offer participants a series of workshops at its preparatory session and a public pitch competition during Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event. The winning project will be presented with the main award, offered by German licensing company Telepool, which includes a €5,000 cash prize and two months of assistance from a professional script doctor. In partnership with business incubator Storytek Creative Hub, the project that has the most potential to be realised in new formats will also receive another award.

Industry@Tallinn, the Black Nights Film Festival’s audiovisual industry event, combines with the Baltic Event co-production market to create one of the biggest film-industry meeting points in Northern Europe. Marge Liiske, head of Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, emphasises: “The early stage of development is the most critical phase for a project to get off the ground. So we will create a springboard for projects that we feel have potential, and will provide the support and services of an international film market.”

Only teams comprising a scriptwriter and a producer can apply to Script Pool Tallinn, and the final selection will be announced on 1 October. This year, Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event takes place from 27 November-1 December on the premises of the 21st Black Nights Film Festival in Tallinn, Estonia (17 November-3 December).
